Series: None Pages: 343, Print Edition Genre: Historical Christian Romance Setting: Copenhagen, Denmark, 1943 What happens when a woman with a high IQ falls for a seemingly slow-witted shipyard worker only to discover he's the infamous merman of the Danish Resistance? American physicist Dr. Else Jensen worked hard for her invitation to the prestigious Institute for Theoretical Physics in Copenhagen and now refuses to leave the city despite German occupation. Instead, she helps print resistance newspapers—a dangerous game that could get her arrested or killed. While living in a boardinghouse, she bonds with a quiet shipyard worker who should be well below her notice. Hemming, the shipyard worker, leads a double—or make that triple—life. Once known as Baron Henrik Ahlefeldt, he assumes the identity of Hemming to escape notice since he has taken on the role of Havmand (Merman). Haymand secretly rows messages to Sweden for the Danish Resistance. Every time he goes on a mission, his life and the lives of other resistance members are in jeopardy. Sarah Sundin is a masterful storyteller, and I never fail to learn something from her books. The characters in this book find strength in themselves and their faith during adversity and danger. Although it was hard to believe that the young baron could hide under the cloak of an assumed identity, I enjoyed the way Sarah worked the story to its uplifting conclusion. *You can find Sarah at SarahSundin.com |
