Series: Scouts of the Georgia Frontier, Book 3 Pages: 302 Genre: Historical Christian Romance Setting: South Carolina, 1775 What happens when a woman who's carried in her heart the love of a young boy who saved her when she was a child, finally meets him again, only to find he doesn't even remember her? Elspeth Lawrence never forgot the boy who kept her hidden from an attack at Long Canes, nor has she ever forgotten her sister who was taken captive that day. With God's grace, she's learned to forgive, but also to work alongside Cherokees at her father’s mission. Alexander Morris lost his brother and his father in the Long Canes massacre. Unlike Elspeth, he doesn't remember that fateful day, yet has not learned to forgive the Cherokee people either. When he’s posted to the fort erected to defend the community once decimated by the massacre, duty demands he court the loyalty of his sworn enemies. When Elspeth and Alex cross paths again, so many years after the attack, she knows that he is still the love of her heart, but can she help him push through his hatred so that they can forge a life together? Denise Weimer spins a tale of fiction but artfully incorporates many real-life figures and events to strengthen the story. I was especially interested in this well-researched book because my family tree goes back to this area of South Carolina during the Revolutionary War. (My fifth great-grandfather was in the militia and buried in Spartanburg.) But what won me over is the love story. Who can resist unrequited love that starts in childhood and lives on in the girl's heart, even though the boy has been gone for sixteen years? Not me! And this hero is definitely worth the wait. *You can find Denise at deniseweimerbooks.com |
